Setsubun & Hoshi-matsuri

(Festival of Planets and Stars)

Setsubun and Hoshi-Matsuri, or the Festival of the Planets and the Stars, will be held on Sunday, February 2nd at 10:00 a.m. During the service, people who were born in the year of the sheep will throw beans at the congregation to chase away the evil in our minds. They shout, "Fuku wa uchi. Oni wa soto," which means "Good fortune in! Devils out!"

The people born during the year of the sheep are those who were born in 1907, 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991 and 2005. These people should arrive at the temple a half an hour earlier in order to prepare for the service.

Everyone who wishes to have an amulet for the year 2005, please write your name and the names and birthdays of all of your immediate family. A special application form will be mailed later.
