Hokekyo

法華經 ホッケキョウ Hokkekyō (jpn.)

The Lotus Sutra or Hokekyo is reported by St. Nichiren as the One True Teaching for the age in which we live. The Hokkekyō - Lotus Sutra , is the Primary Mahayana Sutra that defines our tradition in Nichiren Shu.
    There are two early Chinese translations: 
   1)- the Miaofa lianhua jing 妙法蓮華經 by
Kumārajīva.
  2) Zheng fahua jing 正法華經 by Dharmarakha.

gongyo

jpn.  A term seldom used within Nichiren Shu meaning 'severe practice' - 'assiduous practice'. Use of the term has been popularized by Nichiren Sho Shu & SGI.

Salutations

Gassho -

jpn.  合掌   (jpn) ガッショウ gasshō
Literally "to join one's palms." To place one's open hands  gently together, with palms slightly hollowed as a gesture of honor, respect, and adoration.

Metta

pali  (jpn.)ji; (pali) mettā ; (Sanskrit) maitra
To be compassionate. An expression of altruistic emotion that seeks nothing in return. In Buddhism Maitra is considered one of the Four Incomprehensible Minds.

Namaste

india  An honorary greeting, usually accompanied with Gassho. Literally "I Bow to you." This is an honoring of the sacredness in 'the other.'

Wasan

jpn.  Singing traditional poems and phrases dedicated to the Lotus Sutra and St. Nichiren's life. Wasan is a devotional act developing discipline, group harmony, and spreads the blessings of Nichiren Shonin and the Lotus Sutra around the world.
