My Religious Experience:

Thanks for Protection

My husband who is 94 had surgery twice this year.

Last June, his foot was swollen, so he went to see the doctor. After the doctor's examination, he was informed that he had a bad heart and needed a pace maker. The surgery was successful, and he is now healthy.

He went in for a regular check up in October, and the doctor gave him a CT scan which revealed that he had small tumor in his intestine. It was malignant and he was told that he must have surgery again. Due to his advanced age, I was worried about this second surgery.

The day before his surgery, I called the temple to ask Rev. Kanai to pray for my husband. Mrs. Kanai answered the phone and said that he had just gone to Japan to attend a memorial service at Tennian Island in South Pacific Ocean. Then my worries increased, but about an hour later Mrs. Kanai visited my husband in the hospital and gave him an omamori (amulet). She hung the omamori around his neck and placed her ojuzu (rosary) on his abdomen and chanted Odaimoku.

Due to the excellent care at the hospital and the protection of the omamori and the ojuzu, my husband was able to return home after only nine days. Rev. Kanai later visited my husband at home and gave him a special gokito (prayer).

His quick recovery surprised even the doctors who indicated that it is rare for a person of his age to recover so quickly. Even though my husband received pain medication, he didn't experience any pain nor did he have to use any of the medicine. During his recuperation at home, a visiting nurse came weekly to check on him. She was also surprised over his quick recovery.

Twenty-seven days after the surgery, my husband and I were able to walk around our neighborhood. My husband said it was a miracle that he was able to get well so soon; he attributed this to the omamori, the ojuzu and the blessing by Rev. Kanai.
